My hero for today.

Today I found my way over to a smart and funny site called Surlymuse.com. Blogger Dan Swensen has something quite wonderful to say about those damn one star reviews that even the most successful, award winning author is bound to get. No one is safe from the bridge dwellers! Check it out here.

Here is my favorite of all from Worst Amazon Reviews...Ever! by Dan Swensen

5. “It’s overrated and I’m [shocked / appalled / confused] that it’s popular.”

Oh, it’s so hard being so much smarter than everyone else! Why was I afflicted with this accursed genius?! If you’re such a braniac, maybe the popularity of mediocre, easily digestible books shouldn’t be all that shocking. Do you want a prize for disliking something popular? Again, this is meta-opinion, and usually dime-store snobbery into the bargain.

It is both gratifying and informative. Not all one star reviews are scathing attacks from superior beings, who wasted their very last breath reading plebeian drivel. Some are actually constructive and helpful. Sure you don't like my book but, you said why thoughtfully and gave me something to work on to improve my writing. I am even considering messaging some of these (I only have 3 ome stars THANK GOD!) reviewers with future books gratis for their opinions. My Virgo self aches for perfection so winning their approval appeals to me but, I also know that my writing may not suit everyone and that's ok too. Either way, I have to keep going. This dream of mine is who I am and I will not quit. I will succeed!

  1. Hahah I love it!! I think the same thing when people get all "Oh god no, I couldn't possibly read something popular because I'd be like the rest of the population. I'm going to find something in the corner that everyone else hates just so I can tell them why they're wrong to not LOVE it". Ok, rant over haha :-) And yes, don't quit! Keep going and win them over x
